“Late Night at the Movies” or Movie Marathon

Show a new release DVD or a classic with the kids in their pj’s and sleeping bags. Play “Name that Celebrity” while the movie is on.

“Glitz n Glamour” Academy Awards Night Costume Party

Have the kids dress up as their favorite movie character.  Let them ham it up and have trophies for the best “Drama Queen”  etc.

Decorations

• Create a “Friends Walk of Fame.“   Cut out stars from poster board, decorate them with the name of each guest and lay them out on the floor.
• Hang movie posters on the walls.
• Layout a cheap red carpet up to your door or backyard entrance. Have a few of your party helpers pretend to be the paparazzi snapping pictures of the kids as they walk the red carpet to the party entrance.
• Drape strings of tiny Christmas lights from the ceiling, wind them around pole lamps etc. to create a more festive mood.
• Make a table into a concession stand with all your movie theater fair like boxes of popcorn, nachos, pizza, stromboli, nacho pie and have each guest come up and get their own goodies.  Have popcorn already in the boxes with a selection of popcorn flavorings they can shake on.
• Add a make your own nachos bar to your concession table.
• Have a separate dessert table set up to show  off some of these incredible desserts.

And these cupcakes look like hamburgers – they are really easy to make. You can have either a chocolate cupcake as the burger or use a brownie.

Main Course

Pizza cupcakes–can you believe it?  Just add you own toppings.  They’re easy for the kids to balance on their plates while watching the movie

Stromboli–always a great party favorite.  You can have small dixie cups with dip all set up for the kids to grab and go.
Build Your Own Nacho Bar–Speaks for itself.  Just use your imagination for toppings and have plastic baskets lined with foil already filled with the nacho chips.

Find small popcorn bags or boxes at your party supply store. Put a package of movie theater candy and a package of mini microwave popcorn–maybe some funky sunglasses. Here are some momento keychains to match the invitations above and they would be a cool addition to your goody bags.

Cupcake Themed Party Activities

• Decorate cupcakes to be eaten later for dessert! Assemble your “cupcake bar” details below! Have them decorate a cupcake for themselves and a few to take home.
• You can have them make their own cupcake clippie for their hair. Instructions for Cupcake Clippie are at Girly Things This craft might be too difficult for the younger kids but 8 and up would be able to do it.
• Sock Cupcakes Instructions are over at Creativity for Kids (no sewing and very easy ) These make a cute party favor to take home.
• Decorate their chef’s apron. The girls can write their name with fabric paint, attach pretty colored bows etc. to their aprons. You can purchase aprons to decorate at a reasonable price from kng. For the birthday girl you might want one of these aprons to match the birthday invitations:

• The kids can make their own Chef’s hat. Instructions  from Family Fun These also double as party favors.

Dessert Cupcake Bar

Decorate Your Own Cupcake Bar – Set up a dessert bar with either home baked or store bought cupcakes –sans the icing.  Use a disposable tablecloth for ease of cleanup or at least one you can easily wipe off.

I prefer setting out bowls of  vanilla, chocolate and strawberry icing on the table at intervals.  It depends on how many kids you have attending. Each child gets a colorful plastic plate with Dixie cups filled with sprinkles, mini M & M’s, chocolate chips, crushed Oreos, broken Reese’s® pieces, Skittles® and any other candy favorites. On the table are plates of different flavored cupcakes for the girls to choose their favorites.  You can have matching colored spatulas for them to ice their cupcakes with too.

Instead of a birthday cake I like to mold the ice cream into a giant cupcake and decorate it.  When the kids are ready for their dessert cupcakes they can dig into the ice cream cupcake too.

• Lip Gloss – four cupcake shaped lip glosses come “gift ready” in a cupcake shop container! Perfect for any age.
• Soaps – cute little cupcake soaps .  They look yummy, but don’t eat them.
• Cupcake Stickers you can customize with your event message.  Use them for prizes, gift tags and cupcake toppers.

Our Christmas tree is really a Memory tree.  It has Christmas tree ornaments that mark milestone events in our lives.  We have a  cute ornament I picked up for our first Christmas together;  one with a picture of our kids when they were babies to celebrate their first Christmas; there are some with each individuals name on them; a few Christmas tree ornaments we picked up when we traveled; one to commemorate our first house together; some gorgeous ornaments friends gave us when they came to our Christmas Tree Decorating parties; ones our children made; a few I’ve made and don’t tell anyone but we have some I got at sales.

So many desserts so little time. It just had to be chocolate though. These are a grouping of cupcakes I used in other designs. It’s been quite awhile since I had an entry for Illustration Friday. And I’m hoping time will permit me to again have a regular submission.
